AARP Georgia and Hands on Atlanta to Help Low-Income Seniors with Home Repairs on May 10

Published May 10, 2007

WHO: AARP Georgia and Hands on Atlanta

WHAT: More than 200 local volunteers will join AARP Georgia and Hands On Atlanta at nine sites across Metro Atlanta to help low-income seniors with home repairs during AARP’s annual Day of Service. AARP giving staff day off so they may do volunteer work.

WHEN: Thursday, May 10, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

WHERE: Nine home sites in Clayton, Cobb, Dekalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties. Addresses for specific sites available upon request.

WHY:

Established in the wake of Sept. 11, 2001, as a reflection of AARP’s motto, “To serve, not to be served,” the program drew 32,000 volunteers in 2006. As it has each year, AARP will close all offices nationwide for the seventh annual Day of Service, allowing its staff to participate in hand-on volunteer work.

Organized in partnership with Hands On Atlanta, the home repairs—including painting, landscaping and installing safety devices—are intended to help independent seniors in Metro Atlanta continue living in their homes for as long as possible.
