Children Become Artists at The Color Wheel After School Art Studio

Color Wheel After School Art Studio steps in to fill the void left by under-funded school art programs with their unique and multifaceted curriculums for children ranging in age from infants to twelve years old. Color Wheel art studio doesn’t just teach finger-painting or basic macaroni crafts; instead, the children in Color Wheel’s various programs learn about painting, sculpture, dramatic play, photography and music.

Although The Color Wheel was established in 2002, Cathy Spencer, the founder, has been combining child-care and art since achieving her degrees, which are in Art History and Child Psychology. After working at the High Museum of Art for several years, Cathy felt that she could make a difference for both parents and children by providing after-school child-care to working parents that offered children a chance to grow their creativity through art. The Color Wheel allows children to develop their ability for self-expression while learning about a variety of art forms.

Each staff member at The Color Wheel creates a unique curriculum with diverse activities that provide opportunities for the children to learn about a specific art form, such as dance, music, painting, and more. The staff includes professional artists and child-care providers that are CPR certified. Each staff manages a small group of children, which allows them to give individual attention and support to each child’s attempt at creative self-expression.

Some of the newer programs at Color Wheel art studio include a pre-school program, a morning art school designed to develop social skills in preschool children ages 3 to 5, which meets three days a week, and a “Girl Power” group for girls ages 9 to 12 focused on building self-esteem in the turbulent pre-teen years.
