Junor Art Gallery in Decatur promotes art and exposes artists. On a mission to “further the careers of emerging and established artists and enrich the lives of Atlanta area residents through fine art exhibitions and art education,” Junor is one of the largest fine art galleries in the area and the only one of its kind in Decatur. With much success driving the operations, Junor will celebrate its one year anniversary this August.
Donna Watson, Director and Curator, has worked in the arts for over 20 years as a trained artist. Watson taught in Guyana and Jamaica and is actively seeking International artists as well as working with local artists to propel them to an international platform. Andrea McLean, Director of Business Development, has worked with several gallery owners in roles to help them keep their doors open. She works to get Junor Art Gallery and its artists known among the states and the world.
Currently planning their fifth gallery showing, "Contemplating the Legacy," which will run until February 28th from 6-9 p.m., during operating hours, Junor Art Gallery also strives for inclusion in shows outside the gallery as well, such as their recent showing "Art Off the Main", which took place in New York last October. Their current show, “Contemplating the Legacy” will feature emerging artists and will include a meet and greet of local artist Lamar Barber. Also featured are fabric pieces by Lincoln “Linc” Bennett, Ethiopian artist Yosef Berta, and local artist Eugene Campbell among others. They are also planning a show for the month of March that feature all the women artists of the gallery.
Junor Art Gallery features a large layout with superb flow, making their clientele feel at home. They have established ties locally, in the Caribbean, and internationally. While their goal is to create alliances with other galleries to introduce their artists to maximum exposure, they also focus on art connoisseurs and offer educated advice on selecting and buying the right pieces and consult on displaying art in businesses and homes.
Located at 114 E. Ponce De Leon Avenue in Decatur, the Junor Art Gallery is always open Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with extended hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. They can be reached by phone at (404) 377-2255. Interested artists and buyers can also visit their website for additional information and view their online gallery and upcoming events at www.junorgallery.com.
