Chef, author and television host Marvin Woods has signed on as Honorary Chair of AIDS Survival Project's upcoming art auction and food fundraising event. Art of Dining, now in its fifth year, will be held 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday, April 20.

“From Turner South’s ‘Home Plate’ to his cookbooks, top-tier restaurant positions and many mentions in the media, Marvin is recognized by fans and peers for his infectious personality, signature bandanas and his simply inventive food inspired from North Africa, South America and the Low-Country,” says Melissa Derr, of Intercontinental Hotels Group, who is chairing this year’s event. “We’re proud and pleased that he is making time to be part of Art of Dining.”

Along with Chef Marvin Woods, this evening of food, fun, art and wine will feature samplings from some of the city’s most creative culinary artists and an auction of one-of-a-kind, hand-decorated plates and other mostly food-related items by noted artists and celebrities. Since 2003, Art of Dining has increasingly drawn patrons, sponsors and culinary artists – not to mention a wealth of celebrities, artists, and community leaders – eager to try their hand at original art, which is offered through both silent and live auctions.

The event will again return to the hip Lowe Gallery on Bennett Street. Sponsorships are still available at $150 (host-committee level), $300, $500, $1,000 and $5,000 levels. Tickets for the evening of food, wine and art will soon be available for a minimum donation of $25 in advance; $30 at the door. For Host Committee membership, Sponsorships or further information, please contact AIDS Survival Project’s Treah Caldwell at 404-874-7926, ext. 16.
