Enviro Expo 2008: Atlanta's First Green Expo for Consumers

Published Aug 25, 2008

This November, the fashion apparel and furnishings that typically fill the AmericasMart facility will be replaced with something new – the region’s most diverse display of eco-friendly products, services and educators.

On November 14-15, 2008, Atlanta will host the first annual ENVIRO EXPO USA, which will bring together a full spectrum of ecoconscious businesses, suppliers, manufacturers and green experts to educate consumers on eco-friendly lifestyle choices. Free and open to the public, the event is being held in conjunction with the Georgia Recycling Coalition, who will be leading the region’s observance of America Recycles Day on November 15.

ENVIRO EXPO USA will help consumers better understand what it means to “go green” amidst the hype surrounding green marketing and product development. While many consumers are aware of green product alternatives, few actually understand the environmental impact of their current lifestyle choices.

ENVIRO EXPO USA will give consumers the opportunity to interact and learn more about businesses in the following categories: water, energy, transportation, lawn/garden, building materials/remodeling, apparel, personal products, recreation/leisure, household products, furniture/carpeting and green financing. A host of organic products – ranging from baby food and apparel to cosmetics – will be available for purchase at the event.

“America Recycles Day is an opportunity to join the nation in promoting the environmental and economic benefits of recycling and buying recycled. GRC is pleased to partner with ENVIRO EXPO USA to provide citizens with up close and personal experiences and introduce them to new technology relative to recycling, waste reduction, water conservation and other sustainable practices that assist us in becoming better stewards of our world,” said Gloria Hardegree, executive director, Georgia Recycling Coalition.

There are still a select number of sponsorships and exhibitor spaces available for companies wishing to increase visibility of their eco-friendly offerings. To learn more, please contact Dianne Bennett at dianne@enviroexpousa.org.

ENVIRO EXPO USA will feature a strong educational component and interactive exhibits, including a Town Hall Meeting on Saturday, November 15. This panel discussion will feature sustainability experts from the Environmental Protection Agency, local government officials and representatives from other local environmental organizations. Additionally, more than 20 expert speakers throughout the conference will discuss topics ranging from eco-conscious landscaping to everyday water conservation.

Dianne Bennett, president of Enviro Expo USA, LLC comments, “Today, Atlantans are more ecoconscious than ever before. But, we’re still challenged with how to weed through the hype in the marketplace and integrate 'green' into every aspect of our lifestyle. This event will give us the perspective and education needed to do just that. It’s the first step to making the much-needed improvements, both in our environment and in the way we buy and consume as a society.”

Additionally, the event is being held in conjunction with The Society for Green Science and Technology taking place November 13-14. Chaired by Dr. Daniel W. Tedder, professor emeritus of chemical engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, the technical symposium will feature academic and industrial presentations on “Advances in Green Science and Technology.”
