Marriott International CEO, Hotel Employees & Atlanta's City Council Roll Up Their Sleeves To Help The Hungry

City Council President Lisa Borders will join Chairman and CEO J.W. “Bill” Marriott, Jr., and employees from hotels in the Atlanta area to sort thousands of pounds of food during Marriott International’s annual day of community service.

WHAT: In the wake of home foreclosures and rising costs of food and fuel, an increasing number of working families are seeking food assistance for the first time. Nearly 42,000 Georgians currently receive emergency food assistance each week from the Food Bank’s member agencies. On Marriott International’s annual day of service – Spirit to Serve Our Communities Day—Atlanta-based employees are being joined by their Chairman and CEO Bill Marriott to help sort and pack grocery boxes at the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

Atlanta is one of the company’s top three markets with 67 hotels in Atlanta (including DeKalb, Cobb, Clayton, Fulton and Gwinnett counties). The Atlanta-based employees donated nearly 4,000 hours of community service in 2007.
