DeKalb CEO Forms Task Force for Foreclosure Prevention and Intervention

Published Apr 11, 2008

DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Vernon Jones established the DeKalb Foreclosure Prevention and Intervention Task Force during the regularly scheduled Board of Commissioners Meeting on Tuesday, April 8, 2008.

The Board of Commissioners recently passed a resolution expressing support of Congress’ efforts to pass HB 2636, the “Hope for Homeowners Act of 2008,” which provides support to distressed buyers and lenders, but Jones stressed that foreclosure is a major issue impacting the nation and the county must act immediately to address the critical needs of homeowners throughout DeKalb.

Jones appointed Commissioner Connie Stokes to chair the Task Force. “The increasing foreclosure rate is detrimental to the economy, as well as the stability of families and their ability to obtain the American dream,” said Stokes. “People are losing their homes at an alarming rate.”

CEO Jones is accepting nominations for appointment to the Task Force from the Board of Commissioners. He intends on making appointments to the Task Force immediately.
