Atlanta Dance Theatre will present its 17th annual holiday ballet, Babes in Toyland, in association with Atlanta Workshop Players, this weekend December 7 – 9 at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. The Company dancers and guest actors will perform five shows to sold out audiences! Babes in Toyland debuted in December 1991 and is based on the Victor Herbert operetta. ADT’s artistic director Jonnie Kelley and the late Jorge Guevara choreographed the production. Babes in Toyland features a cast of 65 dancers and actors from Atlanta.
The ballet is the story of Mother Goose and her beloved characters Tom, the Piper’s Son, and Mary Quite Contrary and all their storybook friends, Jack and Jill, Red Riding Hood, Curley Locks and Bo Peep and her sheep. The storybook friends journey through Toyland to the Toymaker’s workshop. Along the way, they have to fend off the treacherous Barnaby and his cohorts in this classic tale of good overcoming evil. Once at the workshop, enjoy the holiday wonder as toys magically come alive and dance. This is a holiday tradition the entire family will enjoy.
