7th Annual DeKalb Blues & Jazz Festival, July 18-20
DECATUR – DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Vernon Jones, the Board of Commissioners and the department of Arts, Culture and Entertainment (ACE) will host a three- day music extravaganza to celebrate the 7th Annual DeKalb Blues and Jazz Festival at Wade Walker Park located at 5580 Rockbridge Rd., July 18-20. This is the first time in seven years the festival has been expanded for an entire three-day weekend to feature R&B, Blues and Jazz.
The R&B line-up on Friday, July 18, 2008, will feature Con funk Shun, Whodini, Kurtis Blow, Tammie Allen and Dr. Lee. On Saturday, July 19, 2008, ACE will bring back festival favorites Melanie Massell, Sol Factor, and deacon bluz and the holy smoke band to join newcomers Mel Waiters, Heat Wave, Bobby Johnson and Michael Henderson. The finale show, on Sunday, July 20, 2008, will showcase veteran performers – back by popular demand – Ken Ford, Theodis Ealey, Warren Hill, Kal David and Theresa Hightower with the SOS Band, a new festival artist.
The gates will open on Friday, July 18, 2008, at 3 p.m. and (lawn) admission is free until 5 p.m. On July 19-20, the gates will open at noon and (lawn) admission is free until 3 p.m. DeKalb County government employees will enjoy free admission – with valid ID – for themselves and up to five guests until 5 p.m. only on Saturday, July 19, 2008.
