Channel 2 Action News rolled out its plans for covering the upcoming Georgia Primaries, including the final debates in two major races and a unique partnership with the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The key races include the Democratic nominee in the race for one of Georgia’s U.S. Senate seats, as well as a challenge mounted for the 5th Congressional District for U.S. Representative against longtime incumbent John Lewis. The battle to fix Clayton County Schools and eight candidates challenging the incumbent Fulton County sheriff also figure in the primary coverage.
On Sunday, July 13 at 12:30 p.m., five democratic candidates running for the U.S. Senate will engage in the final televised debate prior to Tuesday’s primary.
Then at 1:30 p.m., the Democratic candidates for the 5th Congressional District will debate.
John Pruitt, anchor for Channel 2 Action News moderates both debates. Channel 2 anchor, Jovita Moore, and political reporter, Lori Geary, serve on the panel.
Voters can submit questions for the candidates in these two races online at wsbtv.com.
wsbtv.com and ajc.com teamed up with the League of Women Voters to offer online candidate profiles in races across the state. Users can review and compare each candidate’s position on the major issues in each race and build a personal ballot before heading into the voting booth. This interactive element is available online right now and throughout the election process.
Tuesday, July 15th, as the polls open, Channel 2 will provide in-depth coverage of the major Georgia races with crews spread out across more than fifteen counties.
Channel 2 Action News and the AJC will join forces in collecting the election results from around the state, reporting the information on Channel 2, wsbtv.com and ajc.com.
Channel 2 Action News at 5 and 6 p.m. includes live Team 2 Coverage of the voting day prior to the polls closing with in-depth analysis of the political stories of the day. As results are tallied, Channel 2 will air updates throughout the evening. Online users can find immediate results on any race on wsbtv.com.
Then at 11p.m., Channel 2 Action News Nightbeat expands to one hour in order to cover the voting results including live coverage from the campaign headquarters of the major candidates in each race.
Wednesday morning, after all of the votes are in from overnight, Channel 2 Action News This Morning from 5 to 7 a.m. will provide a complete summary of the Primary results.
