Be a Star Tutoring is Offering a Free One-Hour Session for Students to Sample the Service
Dr. Alka Citrin announces the launch of Atlanta-based Be a Star Tutoring, an online program of math and science for students in kindergarten through high school. Highlights include high-impact, virtual classrooms and one-on-one instruction, which is available 24/7.
The brainchild of several faculty members from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University, Be a Star Tutoring features expert educators, curricula based upon US national performance standards and each state’s academic knowledge skills (AKS), and user-friendly technology. “All of our tutors have earned graduate degrees in the subjects they teach and possess a minimum of seven years of classroom experience,” says CEO and founder Dr. Citrin, who is a member of Georgia Tech’s business school faculty. “Our teachers are also specifically trained for online instruction.” To interact, a student and teacher can speak to one another as if in the same room. They also use the same whiteboard to share writings and drawings. Tutors further utilize PowerPoint presentations and videos as well as exchange applications with students. If a student wants a follow-up tutoring session after a lesson, he or she can schedule it online for the desired day and time. “We also typically pair the same tutor with a student for continuity,” says Dr. Citrin. “A familiar teacher can also best accommodate the individual’s learning style, strengths and weaknesses.”
For a limited time, Be a Star Tutoring is offering one free hour of tutoring so that students can sample the service. To take advantage of any online session, students will require a computer with a sound card and high speed Internet access. A headset with a microphone is recommended.
