Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Maloof Administration Building Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Drive, Decatur, Georgia.

(Note: The above information is presented in the exact manner required by O.C.G.A. Section 48-5-32.1 as interpreted by the Georgia Department of Revenue. It only shows those tax districts where the proposed millage rates for 2008 have not been reduced below the statutory rollback rate and, as a result, more total taxes are proposed to be charged to all existing property owners than were charged to those taxpayers last year. However, other millage rates, not shown above, were decreased below the rollback rate and the net change to the average taxpayers’ bill should not be as dramatic as indicated above.)

TThe DeKalb County Board of Commissioners was required by State Law to publish only increases in applicable millage rates, excluding any budgeted millage rate reductions. The millage rates for the following are proposed to decrease below the Rollback Rate, as follows:

Millage                                    Rollback Rate       Proposed                 % Change

                                                2007                            2008*             2008**          from Rollback

Unincorporated Debt Service    1.63                             1.593               1.45                       -8.98%

Countywide Debt Service         0.53                             0.519               0.51                       -1.73%

*A rollback millage rate is computed to produce the same amount of revenue as the previous year excluding new growth.

** These millage rates are prior to the application of the Homestead Exemption from the Homestead Option Sales Tax and the Homeowners Tax Relief Credit granted by the Governor and General Assembly. The Board of Commissioners granted a 60.8% Homestead Exemption for County operations and maintenance, in addition to the Homeowners Tax Relief Credit, in 2007. Debt Service is excluded from these exemptions. The Board of Commissioners will consider the level of Homestead Exemption from the Homestead Option Sales Tax for 2008.
