On Friday, April 18, 2008, from 8:00-10:00 am, at the TWELVE Hotel, Atlantic Station, business and non-profit leaders from metro-Atlanta will gather to celebrate innovations in sustainable business practices at the Earth Day 2008 Sixth Annual Leadership Breakfast. The 2008 keynote speaker will be James C. Kennedy (Jim), chairman and chief executive officer of privately-held Cox Enterprises, Inc., one of the nation’s leading media companies and providers of automotive services. Mr. Kennedy will speak about Cox Conserves, Cox Enterprises' green initiative, and how Cox is meeting the challenge of 'greening' their company. Business leaders will also see their dollars at work through member group table-top displays. A limited number of individual tickets are available for $100 each.
The 12th annual Party in the Park will be held Saturday, April 19, 2008, from 7:00-10:00 pm at Atlantic Station (at the corner of 17th ½ Street and Market Street under the tent). Hailed as a model for smart growth and sustainability for the whole country, Atlantic Station is the largest brownfield redevelopment in America. In all, 11 acres of greenspace were added and 2,000 trees are being planted-beautifying our city while also reducing the urban heat island effect.
Party in the Park is Atlanta's largest Earth Day event, bringing together a diverse group of grassroots environmentalists, devoted philanthropists, and business professionals whose collective goal is to integrate sustainable practices and policies wherever we work, live or play. Enjoy live music, food by Whole Foods Market, and an Eco-silent auction stocked with deals on unique getaways, outdoor gear, and eco-friendly products. Proceeds for the evening benefit Earth Share of Georgia, Georgia's only dedicated environmental fund. Purchase tickets ($50/ person) online at www.earthsharega.org/earthday2008/partyinthepark or by calling (404) 873-3173.
This year’s Corporate Green Day Challenge, on Saturday, April 26, 2007, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., allows employers in both the public and private sector to show their true color (green) by matching employee teams to community environmental projects. More than 400 volunteers participated in the 2007 Corporate Green Day Challenge at 20 locations throughout Atlanta and beyond! These corporate volunteers exchanged their suits for work boots and garden gloves, to clean up parks, pull privet and clean streams, www.earthsharega.org/earthday2008/greenday.
