Keep DeKalb Beautiful to Host Rain Barrel Workshop

Published Jul 1, 2008

Keep DeKalb Beautiful will partner with the DeKalb County Extension Service, and DeKalb County Parks & Recreation to host a Rain Barrel Workshop on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the South DeKalb Senior Center located at 931 Candler Road in Decatur.

The workshop will educate the public on the importance of water conservation. The rain barrel workshop will also offer information on “Xeriscaping” or water wise gardening.  This unique way of landscaping emphasizes the use of native plants and best management practices that reduce outdoor irrigation. Workshop attendees will also learn the basics of soil testing and soil nutrition, as well as instruction on rain barrel maintenance and the use of “grey” water.

The workshop will be open to the first 50 DeKalb County residents that pre-register. Interested workshop attendees must state their intention to attend by Monday, July 7, 2008.  Cost of the workshop is $65.00 and will include your very own rain barrel.  All proceeds will go to Keep DeKalb Beautiful, Inc.

Checks should be made payable to: Keep DeKalb Beautiful, Inc. and mailed to 3643 Camp Circle, Bldg A, Decatur, GA 30032.  To register for the event or for additional information, please contact our office at (404) 371-2654 or via email at kdb@co.dekalb.ga.us.
