Hands On Georgia, the premier organization promoting volunteerism across the state, will hold its first statewide conference, The Georgia Summit on Volunteerism, Monday, October 16, at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park.
Volunteer leaders, managers and those interested in learning how to engage volunteers in their community are strongly encouraged to attend. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with a diverse group of practitioners in the industry. More than 400 attendees are expected, including volunteer leaders from non profit agencies statewide as well as AmeriCorps members serving in Georgia. The participants are all dedicated to serving their respective communities throughout the state. Conference registration is $50.00 per person and can be accessed at the Hands On Georgia website at www.handsongeorgia.org.
Governor Sonny Perdue will deliver the keynote address. In addition, Governor Perdue will salute the Georgia Volunteer of the Year and will award this year’s Hands On Georgia Challenge Grants to those Georgia communities committed to the implementation and development of sustained volunteer programming.
Bill Bolling, founder and CEO of the Atlanta Community Food Bank is the luncheon speaker and will share information about how one person can make a difference in a community. Bolling opened the Atlanta Community Food Bank nearly 30 years ago; it now serves all of north Georgia in a sincere effort to eliminate hunger.
