SEC Sports Report Makes Saturday Pick on Georgia-Florida Game

Published Oct 29, 2008

I'm not bragging but I picked 5 of 6 last week. We knew Georgia would beat LSU even with the odds makers liking the Tigers. We also knew Bama would roll over the Vols, Ole Miss would beat Arkansas and Florida would smoke Kentucky. Who would have thought Vandy would have lost to Duke, not me.

SEC Game of the Week

Georgia (4-1) vs Florida (4-1)in Jacksonville. The Universities do not like to call this game the Cocktail party so this year we will call it the SEC East Championship game. Both teams have lost one game this season and most likely the winner of this game plays in Atlanta for the SEC Championship.

Florida and Georgia have talented players on both sides of the ball and we have been picking both of them as winners all season. Both of these teams ran over LSU but Florida wrapped up their game earlier. We love Stafford and Moreno and the tough defense of Georgia. However, Florida seems like they are on a mission since the close loss to Ole Miss. Since their loss, Florida has reeled off 152 offensive points and only given up 33 points against three SEC teams.

It all comes down to motivation in this game. Last year, Georgia upset Florida 42-30. We all remember the Georgia team celebrating in the end zone. Urban Meyer had this game on the calendar since Christmas. We believe Florida has the edge on speed. It is going to be a shoot-out.  We like Florida 42-35.

SEC East Rivalry Game

Tennessee (1-4) vs South Carolina (2-3) in the Hen House. The Gamecocks lost a close one (24-27) in Knoxville last year in OT. South Carolina has only won this game two times in fifteen years. So why do the odds makers have the Gamecocks favored by six points? Coach Fulmer may be playing his nemeses Coach Spurrier for the last time as a Vol. We believe the Gamecocks are better and the Vols are worse than in 2007. We like the Gamecocks 21-14.

SEC West Rivalry Game

Auburn (2-3) vs Ole Miss (2-3) in Oxford. Auburn has had the Rebels number for the last four years. Coach Tuberville is going up against his former SEC school but this time the line favors Ole Miss. Auburn got humiliated by West Virginia on ESPN last Thursday so they are playing for pride. Ole Miss pulled off another win against Arkansas. This one should be close but we like the Ole Miss offense better than the Auburn offended. We like Ole Miss 27-24.

SEC East-West Game

Kentucky (1-3) vs Miss State (1-3) in Starkville. Kentucky was clearly de-clawed last week in the Swamp by the Fighting Gators 63-5. Miss State had a breather with Middle Tennessee. We believe Kentucky has way too many injuries to win but enough talent to keep it close. We like the Bulldogs 17-14.

SEC vs Cream Puff

Alabama (5-0) vs Arkansas State in Tuscaloosa. Nick Saban took out rival Tennessee last week in typical Bama form. Beat em down, run them over. Bama should win big and let a lot of players get to play in this game. Bama will be looking ahead for their game with LSU in two weeks. We like Bama big 45-7.

SEC In-State Game

Tulane vs LSU (3-2) in Baton Rouge. Les Miles has been taking a beating by the SEC East so he is going to run up the score to redeem his team. LSU Quarterback Andrew Hatch will most likely be out for this game with a leg injury but it should not matter. We like the Tigers 45-10.

SEC vs Conference USA

Arkansas (1-4) vs Tulsa in Fayetteville. Tulsa is ranked number nineteen in the polls but have not beaten the Hawgs in the last fifteen meetings. We always root for the SEC teams. We like the Hawgs in an upset 24-21.
