SEC Sports Report Makes Saturday SEC Football Picks

Published Oct 17, 2008

We're 7-2 over the last two weeks. Our two losses came from our gamble on a Vandy upset and an Auburn team that we predicted was vulnerable. So far, we have been on the money with most games. Here are our picks for Saturday October 18, 2008.

SEC Game of the Week
LSU vs South Carolina in the Hen House. ESPN picked this game over Georgia/Vandy for a reason. There should be lots of drama. South Carolina has a debut start for Stephen Garcia as their Freshman quarterback. Garcia looked good against Kentucky and was a big contributor to the comeback win.

LSU took a beating in the Swamp from a very fast, talented Florida team. Game time is 8 pm and this one could give us another upset pick up. We have picked SC when the oddsmakers did not and we were right for the last two weeks. This game is setting up for Spurrier nicely. We like the Gamecocks 28-24.

SEC Upset of the Week
Miss State vs Tennessee in Rocky Top. Both teams are 2-4 and the bottom of their divisions. Phillip Fulmer is struggling and his athletic director opened the door on conditions that would lead to a head coaching change. Fulmer has already started blaming his quarterbacks which is a bad sign. There is a leak in the dam and the water is rising.

The Vols are at home and favored by 8.5 points but the team is in turmoil. Miss State is fighting for respect and we believe this is a perfect upset scenario. If Tennessee loses, the clock on Fulmer will be ticking loudly. Take State and the points. If there is an SEC upset this week, this will be the game. Our score, State wins 13-10.

SEC East Game
Vandy vs Georgia between the Hedges. Last year, the Bulldogs had to kick a field goal with no time left to win. This year, Vandy has more confidence and a 5-1 record. Vandy has played Georgia close the last few years and this game should be no different. The Bulldogs have had to create a new offensive line every week and this should be a fun game to watch. Stafford will have another big passing game. We like the Dawgs 31-21.

SEC West Game
Ole Miss vs Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Both teams had last week off so it should be a good fight. Ole Miss beat a very good Florida team in the Swamp a few weeks ago. Ole Miss believes they can beat Bama. We see this game as another offensive shoot out. We like Bama 35-28.

SEC East vs SEC West
Arkansas vs Kentucky in Blue Land. Kentucky lost their best receiver in Dickie Lyons Jr last week who was injured in a freak tackle against South Carolina. The Cats defense is tough, especially the front four. Arkansas put a victory on Auburn last week and will try to ride that wave a little longer. We like the Cats 20-14.
