 Channel 2, WSB-TV announced today that the Atlanta Braves Foundation has joined the team raising funds for Oprah’s Big Give 2 Georgia by naming this Friday, April 18th, “Oprah’s Big Give” Night at Turner Field. The joint effort calls upon Braves players, coaches, and fans to help raise funds for the Children’s Restoration Network’s “New Hope Scholarship” program.

The Atlanta Braves Foundation will make a $5000 donation to the Children’s Restoration Network to support the cause, and Braves players including Tom Glavine, Tim Hudson, and Mark Teixeira (The Mark Teixeira Charitable Foundation) have committed to matching that number with $5000 donations of their own. Other Braves stepping up to the plate to help raise funds on Oprah’s Big Give Night include: Rafael Soriano, Corky Miller, strength and conditioning coach Frank Fultz, and more.

Volunteers will be stationed throughout the ballpark on Friday night from the time gates open until the end of the 7th inning collecting donations. Fans who want to contribute can also mail checks made out to the Children’s Restoration Network to: Turner Field, 755 Hank Aaron Drive, Attention: Braves Big Give.

The Atlanta Braves Radio Network flagship stations, 94.9 The Bull and 640 WGST will host an online auction all week supporting the cause. The “Big Give Auction” will include once-in-a-lifetime experiences such as:

WSB-TV’s campaign tackles education of Georgia’s homeless youth head on. Through its partnership with the Children’s Restoration Network of Atlanta, the project will create an endowment for the New Hope Scholarship program. This scholarship program has been in existence since 2005, providing financial assistance to 19 deserving seniors who reside in group homes or homeless shelters throughout metro Atlanta.

Jovita Moore, Channel 2 news anchor, leads the campaign through Public Service Announcements on WSB-TV. Her messages raise awareness for CRN’s mission and explain the various methods for donating to the cause.

“We hope to turn this $10,000 challenge into a major scholarship endowment that will help Atlanta students for years to come,” Moore said. “We invite everyone to contribute and grow this fund. There is a link on wsbtv.com’s home page to CRN’s donation page.
