The DeKalb Parks and Recreation Department have partnered with former WNBA Superstars Yerushia Brown and Tracy Henderson-Edwards to ensure a “Healthier DeKalb” for local youth. Overtime Basketball Academy and Servcom will bring “Summer Hoops Fest” to the DeKalb’s Camp Superstars Summer Program. The first event will kickoff on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at 9:15 a.m., located at the Lynwood Recreation Center, 3360 Osborne Rd., in Atlanta.
Summer Hoops Fest will take place throughout the summer at various DeKalb County Parks & Recreation facilities. The Summer Hoops Fest will promote the development of early health-conscious habits. Each clinic focuses on intervention and prevention of obesity and sedentary lifestyles. Summer Hoops Fest activities will address sports education, nutrition, fitness, sportsmanship and self-discipline, emotional resilience, character and leadership development, decision making, shared team-building, self sufficiency, self-esteem, and good citizenship.
“We truly appreciate the partnership between DeKalb County, Overtime and Servcom,” said DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Vernon Jones. “Each of these organizations have contributed to the vitality of our community and the quality of life in DeKalb.”
